It's been almost 3 months since my last post. Nothing has changed since May on the house. It took 4 months to close on our land and now we are in a similar situation as we were with the plumber, but now with the electrician. Paul is still living at the camper through the week. Still no power and water has to be cut on at the house to use, then cut off because there is still no pressure regulator. We finally got the electrician back out there to hang the weather-head, but now can't get a rough in inspection. Builder says inspection is called in, but has no date to give us. We call the inspector and they say nothing has been called in. We just seem to go in circles and make no progress. We have someone to do insulation, but just got to get this blooming electrical inspection out of the way. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 As soon as the insulation is complete, the sheet rock can start going up. We do have a painter lined up to start painting the exterior on October 4th. That will make a big difference on the outside. All of our new kitchen cabinets are piled up in the living room. They are so pretty and praying they don't get messed up before they get installed
Paul works all the time up there. He has really made some improvements on the old smokehouse. We both have been working hard to clean up the place. We have had some massive burn piles going and made trips to the dump.
Paul rented a tractor and dug a water line to the old barn, pulled up old privet and holly bushes around the house, smoothed out areas where we had tore down old buildings, dug up stumps, knocked down poles....he has been a busy boy!!! I’ve done some pressure washing, installed glass in the French doors, and trimmed hedges and crepe myrtles. Last Saturday, was so perfect up there. The weather was amazing. Its so peaceful and the animal sounds just make you laugh out loud. This house just can't get finished fast enough. I am ready to be in the same house with my whole family ALL week, not just weekends.
The Animals:
We have some new faces at Silo Springs. Millie and Brista joined the herd in August. Millie is a light red Highland and Brista is a black and white British White. They are both the sweetest animals and were much easier to tame than Izzy and Dixie. I could watch them in the fields all day long...as long as I am in a shade😂.We sadly had to say goodbye to our beautiful donkey, Jasmine. She had a very freak accident, that we are still a little confused on what exactly happened. She passed early one morning and Paul found her on his morning checks. Neither Ariel or Jasmine made any sounds that would have alerted Paul there was a problem. We were crushed. She was our entertainment and the most beautiful donkey I have ever seen. We sure miss seeing her prancing and kicking up her heels in the fields.
Ariel seemed so lonely so we found her a friend. His name is Eeyore and he is a 4 year old mini. Eeyore is only 33" tall!! They seemed to hit it off at first, but Ariel doesn't seem real impressed anymore. Maybe they will bond with a little more time together.
It's about time for Waylon to find his very own group of ladies, but he has to be tested first. We have not given Waylon much attention and he is skittish, but that is probably not a bad thing with a bull. I had to get a little notch of his ear. We have been meaning to get the vet out and things have just not worked out. So Paul and I decided if I bought a ear notcher....HE would notch Waylon's ear. I've read that a farmers most common phrase is..."Well, that didn't go as planned". I can honestly say getting a notch of Waylon's ear did not go as we had planned...but we got it nevertheless. I had put some new salt licks out and like all nosey cows do, they came to check it out, including Waylon. Waylon will probably never lick a salt lick again in his life!! While he was licking the salt lick, Paul slipped a lasso around his head. The only thing I have ever seen close to this would be a rodeo with the bucking bulls. Waylon really showed out, kicking and jumping. It was a sight!! I was suppose to be the lasso holder and Paul the ear notcher. Somehow or another, during Waylon's fit, we got switched and Paul became the lasso holder and I became the ear notcher. That was NOT what I signed up for, but like any good team player I did what I had to do. I notched his ear and yelled, "I got it, I got it." Then it was "wait that is just hair left in the notcher". So then with a bull tied up within 2 feet of us, we are both on the ground looking for Waylon's ear notch. Paul finds it and we get it secured in a ziplock bag and then we have to figure out how to get the lasso off of poor Waylon. We battle it for a bit, but Waylon is wore out at this point and he pretty much lets Paul get close enough that he can get the rope over his head. Waylon trots off wondering, "what was that all about!!!" Poor little Waylon. I failed to mention that during the whole ruckus, we had a circle of cows around us just watching, until they must have become bored and left or maybe they were smart and said "Let's get out of here before we are next."
Paul and I knew this remodeling would not be an easy task, but neither did we expect it to be this hard. Paul is the most level headed. I fall off the wagon quite frequently...... I've had enough, put a for sale sign up, I can't do this anymore, etc. I don't know why I can't keep my faith steady as God takes us through this process. I always regroup and come back to my senses, but poor Paul has to deal with me until I crawl back up on that wagon. Most of the things that happen are out of our control, we are total dependent on the people we have hired, to do what they say they are going to do. After church on Sunday, Paul said, "This house is our Goliath." It is Paul and I who are standing in front
of this never ending remodeling, that is costing more than we ever imagined and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight, but it is not us that defeats this giant. It is our God who is omnipresent, omnipotent, all powerful, who is living inside of us that will get us through this... even when it feels like everyone else is working against us. He is for us, not against us. Throughout the Bible, God remains sovereign over the lives of those who seek Him. We can trust that He is in control over all matters in our own lives as well. Paul and I are trusting Him for victory over every obstacle we face. He empowers us, with His strength, so we can persevere. "For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen." Romans 11:36
